Corpse Party CEMETERY0 ~The Genesis of Ars Moriendi~) is a Japanese manga series written by Makoto Kedouin, illustrated by Ichihaya, and published by Manga Life Win from June 2012 to April 2014. This manga is a prequel to the Corpse Party series and follows Naho Saenoki on her paranormal investigations.

All nineteen chapters in the series was collected into two volumes, with the first volume released on June 22, 2013, and the second volume released on April 17, 2014.

Plot

There is a website for suicides appearing on the internet only at midnight and when certain specific keywords are searched. Although it is supposed to be only a mere urban myth, girls who have performed the ritual suddenly disappeared. High school paranormalist Naho Saenoki launches an investigation to shed light on this gruesome incident while the amount of victims keeps increasing. And then, it happened to Naho herself...

  • FILE #01: Urban Legend (FILE#01 都市伝説)
    The story starts with a bunch of girls bullying another one in the lavatories. The girls walks out of the stall, possessed by a malicious spirit, and slices one of the girls face, hurting her. The girls scream as the possessed girl is ready to stab her. Naho and Sayaka run into the place and manage to purify the girl before any more damage can be done. Later the two best friends talk about themselves and their friends. Sayaka then has to run into the bathroom, leaving Naho alone.
  • FILE #02: Friends (FILE#02 トモダチ)
    The story picks up with Naho talking to Akari and Miku, who both tell her that Akari told Miku and their third friend, Shiori, a story about the suicide website in the P.E. storage room. Akari later went to visit Shiori, only to find her room empty and the website open. Naho then promises the girls to find Shiori. Later Sayaka meets up with Naho on the rooftop and have a heartwarming conversation.
  • FILE #03: Nightmare (FILE#03 悪 夢 )
    Naho goes to Tendo Girls' Senior High School and meets up with Akari, who starts explaining that she had a very realistic dream last night about someone chocking her to death. Naho then drops a teacup she was holding as Akari was getting possessed in front of her. After purifying her she tells her to use a video camera so she can watch Akari sleep to make sure nothing bad is happening. Akari then explains Miku's mistrust in others. After leaving, Naho gets a message from Sayaka.
  • FILE #04: Creeping Shadows (FILE#04 忍び寄る影)
    Naho goes to visit Kou and sets up her laptop to watch over Akari. Shougo invited her to watch a movie with them and she accepts, being sure that nothing happens to Akari. After coming back she realises that the video she is seeing is being played back, so she turns on the live feed, seeing a tall unknown figure creeping above Akari. Naho tries to call her, but to no avail as the unknown figure chokes Akari, terrifying Naho. Fortunately Akari wakes up, still being alive. Naho then dresses up and hurries to Akari's school.
  • FILE #05: Investigation at the Scene (FILE#05 現場検証)
    Akari is seen at her school, tired after yesterday. Two of her friends ask whats wrong, and Miku walks in. Akari and Miku hug and the latter gives two candies to Akari, who eats them right away. Miku leaves and Naho runs into the classroom, happy to see Akari alive and well. The two then go to Akari's house for a sleepover, to make sure nothing happens to Akari. Naho goes to use the bath and unbeknownst to her, Akari gets paralyzed.
  • FILE #06: Fomenting (FILE#06 胎動)
    Akari regains her ability to move and sees her phone floating in the middle of her room. She picks it up and pukes, losing control over her body once again. She hits her mouth with her phone repeatedly, breaking one tooth off. She then picks up a paper cutting knife and is ready to slam it into her mouth, but she is saved by Naho just in time. Naho looks up the window and sees the culprit looking at her. Naho then runs outside and chases after the figure.
  • FILE #07: Best Friend (FILE#07 親友)
    Naho and the figure stop and battle. Naho then realises that it's Miku and that she wrote Shiori's name into the website, causing her disappearance. Miku then start blabbering about how she wanted her dead for stealing her boyfriend for her. Akari sees all this and begs Miku to stop, saying that it's unlike her. Akari's words get through to Miku and the two fall down in tears. A little while later Naho is telling all this to Sayaka, showing her the "candy" that Miku gave to Akari, them being Entities.
  • FILE #08: Transfer Student (FILE#08 転校生)
    Akari visits Naho and Sayaka, finally meeting up with Sayaka, who calls her adorable. Akari says that Miku still hasn't shown up after the incident, as well as thanks for saving them. Naho then shows her the candy that she ate, and Sayaka grabs the bottle and shakes it, Naho tells her not to, but it's too late as the bottle shatters. Naho asks if Sayaka is alright and the two girls go back to class. They see a new student, Magari Mizuki, transferring over. Magari then walks up to Naho and kisses her in the lips, alarming the whole class.
  • FILE #09: Consideration (FILE#09 ユウジョウ)
    Naho and Sayaka both go to the cinema, Naho quickly going to use the bathroom. Inside she gets attacked by the evil spirit. Naho then purifies it. After the movie Sayaka gives her best friend a bottle with sparkly dust and a star accessory. Naho remembers the day when her mother disowned her. Back in the present, Magari puts up a show in the class and grabs Naho, dragging her behind a curtain. She then tells her that Sayaka also gave her the star bottle as a sign of friendship. Naho comes back to the class and meets up with Sayaka, being mistrustful of her. In the epilogue is it shown that Miku was found dead in a train station.
  • FILE #10: Girl Meets Girl (FILE#10 ガール・ミート・ガール)
    Akari is shown to be mentally broken, with one of her friends gone and he other one dead. She meets up with Naho in the city and the paranormalist cheers the girl up. Two then meet up with Aiko, who asks for a good amount of money for looking into the case. The two leave and Akari brings up that her phone no longer receives emails. Naho says that if she does receive one, she should show it to her immediately, instead of opening it. Akari then runs off.
  • FILE #11: Rival (FILE#11 敵)
    Magari and Naho are seen talking in the cafeteria. Naho asks her about things and Sayaka walks in, losing her trust in Naho. Later Naho meets Magari outside of the school and Magari shows her the key that Naho gave to Sayaka as her sign of friendship. Nagari then throws it on the ground and breaks it with her heels, leaving Naho in tears. She then meets up with Aiko, who explains what she found on the subject of the suicide website.
  • Bonus File: Corpse Pa_ty (番外編 こーぷすぱ●てぃー)
    The extra chapter follows Aiko as she uses the power of her newly acquired spiritual item, a pair of underwear able to steal the other persons underwear just by touching them!

  • The Ars moriendi ("The Art of Dying") are two related Latin texts dating from about 1415 and 1450 which offer advice on the protocols and procedures of a good death, explaining how to "die well" according to Christian precepts of the late Middle Ages.
  • Name of the LAST FILE, Memento Mori, is Latin for "Remember that you will die."
